Whitney Houston's Gay Lover Tells All in New Book

As she also writes in a new memoir, "A Song for You: My Life With Whitney Houston" out November 12, Crawford is talking on TV about how she and Houston were far more than platonic.

In her book, exclusively excerpted in this week's PEOPLE, Crawford shares the story of what it was like to be by Whitney Houston's side as she became a superstar.

Robyn Crawford met Whitney Houston in 1980 at a summer camp in East Orange, N.J., where they were both counselors.

Houston stated that they couldn't be physical anymore with each other because it would make their lives more hard, and in the 1980s, Crawford felt the same way.

After Houston signed with Arista, she ended the physical aspect of her relationship with Crawford. "She mentioned if persons uncover out about us, they would use this versus us, and again in the '80s that is how it felt".

"I was in that moment, it was ours... she just came into my life all of the sudden, I didn't know how long it was gonna last, but I was just enjoying the moment", Crawford says.

Crawford also shared there was pressure from Houston's family, including her mother, gospel singer Cissy Houston.

They simply lived their lives and hoped that "he could go on like this forever". Crawford said Houston is the one who broke it off, giving her a gift of a Bible along with the news.

Brown told US Weekly in in 2016, that Houston was bisexual, and added,"I really feel that if Robyn was accepted into Whitney's life [by others], Whitney would still be alive today".

"We never talked about labels, like lesbian or gay", she wrote.

She hopes by writing her book, she can set the record straight about who Whitney truly was.

It's been almost eight years since iconic songstress Whitney Houston passed away.

Love is love. It's simply so devastating to consider how completely different Whitney's life might have been if she allowed this (alleged) like to flourish.

Crawford and Houston met as teenagers and she would work closely with the singer until around 2000.

"I wanted the audience to see that that's what Whitney had to deal with", Macdonald said.

Eddie Murphy reportedly tried to stop Whitney Houston from marrying Bobby Brown on her wedding day. Their relationship was especially put under scrutiny by Whitney's own mother, Cissy Houston.

"We wanted to be together", she shares simply, before explaining how Houston ultimately chose stardom over a romantic relationship between them.
