Stefanik differs with Trump on Paris climate accord

Although Trump had announced his decision to withdraw from the historic Paris Agreement on climate change on June 1, 2017, the process began on Monday with the formal notification and the U.S. will be out of the pact on November 4, 2020.

Last month, Professor Jem Bendell, a professor of Sustainability Leadership in the University of Cumbria explained that the warming of the Eocene period did not really occur within a short span of time; it all took place over a long period, contrary to what is viewed today. Nebraska Farmers Union President John Hansen says withdrawing is not a good move.

"While I don't think the Paris climate accord is a flawless deal, I do not think the USA should be on that very small list with countries like Syria pulling out of these environmental goals to combat climate change", Stefanik said.

Pompeo cited President Trump's rationale for exiting the Paris Agreement, pointing to the "the unfair economic burden imposed on American workers, businesses, and taxpayers by USA pledges made under the Agreement". Per the terms of the agreement, the United States submitted formal notification of its withdrawal to the United Nations. Hansen says that's not being responsible.

Agreement rules prevented any country from pulling out in the first three years after the November 4, 2016, ratification.

In a letter sent to President Trump on April 26, 2017, 16 companies, including Apple, DuPont, General Mills, Google, Intel, and Walmart, among others, pleaded their case for why the US should remain in the agreement. President Trump may believe his commitment to fossil fuels will win him votes, but it will also cost lives.

French President Emmanuel Macron, who unsuccessfully tried to persuade Trump to stay in the accord, lamented the decision.

U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said in a statement Monday that the Paris accord stifles the American economy and is not necessary because the U.S.is already reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Shaw had created a legacy "that will not be undone", said Ardern, who thanked National for supporting the legislation. "Long after Trump is out of office his decision to withdraw the United States from the Paris Agreement will be seen as a historic error". He understood that the duly elected representatives of the American people would not approve.

"The Paris Agreement is our best hope to mount an effective global response to the climate crisis, which is why it has resounding support from a majority of Americans". U.S.net greenhouse gas emissions dropped 13% from 2005-2017, amid 19% economic growth, he said.

The coalition of nations agreed to attempt to limit the rise of global temperatures to 1.5 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels by the end of the century. China has said it will lower carbon intensity and peak emissions by about 2030.

"The Trump Administration's abandonment of action on climate change gives other countries an excuse not to act either". Trump has previously said that the agreement put "no meaningful obligations on the world's leading polluters" like China.
