Messi's dead-ball hattrick puts Barca back on top

Lionel Messi scored a hat trick, two of which came from free kicks, to help Barcelona climb back atop La Liga with a 4-1 victory over Celta Vigo at the Camp Nou on Saturday. But the Catalan giants bounced back in style, with Messi leading the way with a superb hat-trick.

Barca's captain coolly converted a penalty to put the champions ahead in the 23rd minute but gave away a foul in a risky area which led to Lucas Olaza levelling for Celta with an outstanding strike from a free kick in the 42nd.

Semedo has played 16 games for the Blaugranas this season - 12 of those appearances coming in the La Liga and four in the Champions League.

Messi restored Barca's lead right before halftime with a stunning free-kick of his own.

The Argentine superstar bagged two free-kicks and penalty to claim his 34th hat-trick in the Spanish top fight, equalling the record of Ronaldo's 34 hat-tricks.

Sergio Busquets scored the fourth goal for Barcelona.Valverde then said everyone did their job and they all won the match."When we win, we all win".

"We have a very big advantage, we have the best player in the world on our side who is also the best at taking free-kicks", said Busquets in praise of Messi. "Because when you are used to a regular feeling, it forces you to improve".

Ernesto Valverde admitted Barcelona can not help but depend on Lionel Messi after the talismanic forward scored a hat-trick to inspire a 4-1 La Liga victory over Celta Vigo. "It is an advantage that we have, that our opponents fear and that is fine", quoted Valverde as saying.

"When you lose a game it's always important to win the next one, especially at a club like ours".

Barcelona now sit at the top of La Liga once more, level on points with rivals Real Madrid.
