Nursing Director Amy Kaser says they're once again hosting a drive-thru flu clinic Saturday, November 9th, from 9 to 11 am in the health department parking lot. It is very important for pregnant women to get the vaccine because flu can cause serious problems to both the mother and the unborn child, in cases causing still births, reduced birth weight and premature births.

"Typically the flu starts to circulate in late fall, so this is why we are reminding residents to get their flu shot early to prevent illness in our community", Eileen de Villa said. It also helps decrease severity of illness, complications, and protects the entire community, especially those who are unable to be vaccinated.

The flu virus can be spread to others as far as 6 feet away, mainly by water droplets made when people with flu cough, sneeze or talk.

Common symptoms of the flu include fever or feeling feverish, a cough and/or sore throat, a runny or stuffy nose, chills, fatigue and body aches.

The county Health Division has a limited quantity of some types of flu vaccine available at this time. Free flu shots are also available at Sierra College and the upcoming Mountain Mandarin Festival.
