The Nobel Prize in Physics has been awarded to Manitoba-born James Peebles "for theoretical discoveries in physical cosmology", and to Swiss colleagues Michel Mayor and Didier Queloz "for the discovery of an exoplanet orbiting a solar-type star".
"We now know that about a quarter of all stars have a planet of Earth's size and surface temperature, with the potential of hosting liquid water and the chemistry of life on its surface", he said.
During the finale, the show's friends took one last trip together to support married couple Sheldon (Jim Parsons) and Amy (Mayim Bialik) after they won the Nobel Prize in physics. Of course, Kaelin and Semenza are both based in the United States so it's safe to say that they were probably woken up by the phone call because of the time difference between the USA and Sweden.
Mayor and Didier found the planet by observing what Danielsson called an anonymous star in the constellation Pegasus.
The Nobel jury noted that the discovery "started a revolution in astronomy" and since then over 4,000 exoplanets have been found in our home galaxy.More news: Trump suggests Nancy Pelosi is guilty of treason over impeachment

Peebles, who was born in the Winnipeg community of St. Boniface and has taught at Princeton University for the past five decades, said he is gearing up for what he described as the "aura of the Nobel". The awards are a recognition of work that advances each of the respective fields. "It's a huge honour", he told reporters after arriving in Madrid, where he was to speak at scientific events this week.
Past physics prize laureates include Albert Einstein, Niels Bohr and James Chadwick, the discoverer of the neutron. They challenge our preconceived ideas about planetary systems and are forcing scientists to revise their theories of the physical processes behind the origins of planets.
The economics prize - officially known as the Bank of Sweden Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel - will be awarded on October 14.
The three men will share a nine-million kronor (C$1.2 million) cash award, a gold medal and a diploma. The sixth one, the Nobel Peace Prize, will be handed out in Oslo, Norway, on the same day.
"This discovery is the most exciting of our entire career, and to be awarded a Nobel Prize is simply extraordinary", Mayor and Queloz said in a statement on Tuesday.
The Peace Prize will follow on Friday, with bookies predicting a win for Swedish teen climate activist Greta Thunberg on betting sites such as Ladbrokes.
