Pat Shurmur has message for Daniel Jones doubters

Daniel Jones completed a hard week with an encouraging performance Thursday night, leading the New York Giants to a touchdown during a 25-23 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals in Zac Taylor's first home game as head coach.

Shurmur could have ended all speculation by simply saying that Eli is the team's Week 1 starter-but he didn't.

After Thursday's victory coach Pat Shurmur said that when Jones is called on to play, he has confidence that he will be ready.

"Eli's our starter, and we're getting Daniel ready to play".

While Shurmur left the door open, he didn't exactly answer the question.

Daniel Jones' performance this preseason has been mind-blowing. "Like I've said many times before, I don't feel I have trouble beating people; I just think I wasn't getting there fast enough".

Plenty of evaluators questioned whether drafting Jones No. 6 overall was the correct move for the franchise, but the young quarterback has silenced his doubters thus far. A couple of the deep balls he threw, when the defender's in close proximity, giving the receiver a chance on the ball, those are two of the results on a couple of the deep balls. "And, I mean, he's into it". In three preseason games, Manning is 9-of-13 for 86 yards with a touchdown and no interceptions.

The Giants open the regular season September 8 against the Cowboys at AT&T Stadium.
