Wayne Rooney sends message to Liverpool FC fans about Jurgen Klopp

'Liverpool won't spend big this summer, this squad can compete for Europe's top prizes for years'.

However, the Merseyside outfit got their revenge at the start of June after Liverpool FC were 2-0 winners against Tottenham Hotspur in the Champions League final.

But despite the huge income gains of UEFA prize money the strategy has not changed.

"His kind of a little bit dirty dressing-room talks I can not do, these things you say in the dressing room that I am not allowed to say in public". We can not spend every year in the same manner.

"People talk about it like, 'now another £300million or £200million". There are maybe only two clubs in the world - it looks in the moment like Barcelona and [Real] Madrid can do the same - City and PSG that can do it every year.

'But we are fine.

"We have to see if we can find a position where we can improve, but there is no real pressure".

"It's a slightly different situation to past year; players coming back late, we had a shorter holiday than pretty much all the other teams because the Champions League final was three weeks after the season ended".

Klopp and his backroom team believe the squad are sufficiently strong enough that only players of the top calibre are required within the existing setup.

"We have to find solutions for different problems in the future. He clearly has the talent and I wouldn't be surprised if another Premier League team snapped him up". That's not so easy. Past year we tried the same [against Dortmund in pre-season] and it didn't work out.

"But we need the intensity for preparing for a whole season, so we can not try to avoid high intensity before a game that is obviously a big one against a really strong side". The young boys are here and enjoyed working with us a lot. Players will come back.

"I'm excited about having the first proper test", said the manager during a pre-match press conference at the IN venue on Thursday.

Rooney finished by saying he has great respect for Klopp and what he has done so far, not just in the Premier League with the Reds but also at Borussia Dortmund.
