Tottenham 'hijack' Arsenal's William Saliba transfer with late offer to Saint-Etienne

Tottenham Hotspur appear to be in the process of hijacking Arsenal's proposed deal for Saint-Etienne talent William Saliba after it has been reported the 2019 Champions League finalists have trumped their north London rivals and are set to finalise their own agreement.

Saliba was expected to complete a £26.5 million move to the Gunners but stay with the Ligue 1 outfit for a further 12 months to continue his development, a condition insisted upon by his current employers.

But Spurs have been monitoring the situation and have now allegedly submitted an offer which is more than that from Arsenal.

Saint Etienne officials will now review both offers before reaching a final decision, which might come as soon as within the next 48 hours.

Bouhafsi claims that any deal, for Spurs or Arsenal, would see him return to Etienne on loan for next season.

It is said that Spurs and Saint-Etienne will meet today to conclude negotiations and that if Arsenal do not move rapidly, they will miss out on the player.

However, Tottenham have made a last-ditch attempt to secure the services of the France Under-20 global by offering a marginally better deal.

Mauricio Pochettino is thought to be keen on bolstering his centre-back options this summer, should he lose Toby Alderweireld. The Belgian centre-back's contract is due to expire at the end of next season, and he has a release clause of £25m which could see him leave the club this summer.
