Some people may be able to access Twitter again and we're working to make sure Twitter is available to everyone as quickly as possible.

Washington: Twitter users worldwide could not access the messaging service for about an hour amid reports of an outage on Thursday. The social media platform is now up but isn't entirely functional for everyone.

The online news and social networking site Twitter is down right now after suffering a massive outage.

"The outage was due to an internal configuration change, which we're now fixing".

The side DownDetector reported the issues began just before 3 PM ET impacting Twitter's website and Android and iPad apps.

The outage appeared to affect users in North America, Europe, and Asia, according to DownDetector.

Twitter did not immediately confirm that the service had been fully restored.

In a statement, a Twitter spokesperson said: "We are now investigating issues people are having accessing Twitter".

It comes as Reddit experienced similar issues this morning into the afternoon, leaving users unable to access the site or load any posts.

We would tell you to retweet this story to "help save a life", but obviously you can't (because Twitter is down).

Twitter, however, did not provide any details on the outage. This was in part because the outage affected tools Google's engineers use to fix problems.
