Harry Styles in Talks to Play Prince Eric in Disney's 'Little Mermaid'

"The Little Mermaid" live-action movie may have found itself its prince charming.

Harry Styles is going under the sea.

Styles made his acting debut with 2017's Dunkirk, Christopher Nolan's World War II drama that grossed over $526 million worldwide and collected several Oscars.

Styles, who rose to stardom as one-fifth of One Direction, would join in a leading role opposite Bailey, who's a protege of Beyoncé Knowles-Carter as a member of R&B duo Chloe x Halle.

Styles recently screen-tested for the role of Elvis Presley in Baz Luhrmann's upcoming biopic, but the singer lost out on the role to Austin Butler.

As for Prince Eric's role in The Little Mermaid, he falls in love with Ariel after she saves him from drowning. According to Collider, the talks are early, so this casting isn't set in stone just yet - though it would make ideal sense.

The Little Mermaid will be directed by Rob Marshall and written by David Magee. Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda, who wrote songs for "Moana", is teaming up with Alan Menken to write songs for the new project. THR also points out that Eric doesn't do any singing in the original 1989 film, though the 2000 Broadway musical changed that; if Styles is indeed cast, it seems likely that this new live-action version will be giving Eric some tunes to belt out, too. It's been widely reported that Melissa McCarthy is in talks to play Ursula though, with Jacob Tremblay and Awkwafina hammering out deals to voice Flounder and Scuttle.
