Govt decides to not take immediate action against judge Arshad Malik

As per Section 5A of the National Accountability Ordinance (NAO), the Law Ministry, with the consent of the chief justice of a high court, appoints judges for special courts, including accountability courts.

He said that it was only after he refused to accept the lucrative bribes and give in to threats, the PML-N VP held the controversial presser where she released the "manipulated" videotapes, wherein, she had claimed, the judge had confessed to giving the verdict under pressure. However, Justice Farooq made a decision to write to the law ministry to relieve Justice Malik from his position as an accountability court judge until an investigation against him is completed, they said.

An interview of former Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's daughter Maryam Nawaz was "forcefully" taken off air within a few minutes of broadcasting, Dawn has reported. She asked why her father was not being released if the judge who had given the verdict in the case against him was removed.

Advocate Ishtiaq Ahmed Mirza had filed the petition through his counsel Chaudhry Munir Sadiq under Article 184 (3) of the Constitution, making the federal government, PML-N President Shahbaz Sharif, PML-N Vice-President Maryam Nawaz, senior PML-N leader Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Nasir Butt and Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) as respondents.

The judge said Nasir Janjua had claimed that he had about Rs100 million in euros as advance payment of which Rs20 million was in the auto he had arrived in. "If this is the case, how can a verdict by this judge be maintained", she asked.

The Supreme Court of Pakistan fixed on Friday a petition seeking an investigation into Judge Arshad Malik video scandal for hearing on July 16.

The IHC has the administrative control of the accountability courts in Islamabad. "I won't comment on the case now", he said.

"Free Nawaz Sharif, the true people's representative, the three times elected Prime Minister who has been conspired against and wronged, not once but over and over again".

The judge, elaborating the April 6 meeting in the affidavit, further wrote that he had accompanied Nasir Butt to Jati Umra where Nawaz "personally received" them.

Contrarily, the next day, the judge had denied being under any pressure, but admitted that Nasir Butt was an acquaintance. He further revealed that he was offered a bribe by the son of Nawaz Sharif and also threatened of dire consequences if he does not cooperate with Sharif family.

In a series of tweets, the PML-N VP said that "the matter was not about the removal of a judge instead it was about suspending the verdict that the judge [Malik] had issued".
