AFCON 2019: CAF names officials for Nigeria, Algeria semi-final

The continent's richest man Aliko Dangote has promised to pay the Super Eagles $50 000 (R700 000) for each goal they score against the Algerians.

The Desert Warriors have demonstrated signs of impressive resurgence in this tournament following a hard couple of years during which they were knocked out in the group stages of the 2017 tournament and failed to qualify for the 2018 FIFA World Cup. We are in seclusion away from the prying eyes of journalists and others watching all we are doing at training now, " observed a top official of the team last night. We know they're a good side but we have a strong team too.

"Having said that, I am confident with the present crop of players we have in the Eagles squad, a good blend of both experience and youth, we have a slight edge over the Desert Foxes and can beat them to the final ticket, " he said.

"This is our target, we want to write our history and the players want to write their history as well".

"We can forget about the defeat to Madagascar now because we are through to the semi-final".

It is their seventh semi-final although their first since 2004 when they won the tournament for the only time.

"Algeria are the best team of the tournament so far and it will be a big challenge to beat them", Rohr said.

Tunde Popoola, the Secretary-General of the Nigeria Olympic Committee noted that Nigeria had a slight advantage over Algeria which should count on Sunday.

"All four semi-finalists are quality sides and all can go on and win this competition".
