The Office will be departing Netflix for NBCUniversal's future streaming platform, the original producer of the show announced Tuesday.
While Netflix has always been the best-known streaming service, other companies are encroaching on the company's territory.
The show has since become a Netflix staple for bingers to watch over and over again.
The not-shocking news gives the NBCUniversal service an attractive draw as it enters the streaming wars, though it removes a hefty payday if it had licensed the show to Netflix beyond 2020.
Netflix has been preparing for the loss of many of its licensed shows. It will feature NBC programming as well as content from outside producers. Unlike Netflix, the NBCU service will include advertising.
But the streaming landscape is changing now, and legacy media companies are trying to draw viewers with their own products.
