Madison Bumgarner upset after Max Muncy homers off him

The only run the Dodgers would need would come eight pitches into the game, a pimped Max Muncy homer off Madison Bumgarner - who greeted it with shouts - as the Giants fell Sunday, 1-0, in front of 34,098 at Oracle Park.

With two out and nobody on, Muncy launched a 426-foot shot into McCovey Cove.

We shouldn't be surprised by Bumgarner's quotes. "But I just. I can't". And to put a cherry on top of it all, he revealed his response to Bumgarner yelling at him.

"They want to let everybody be themselves".

For Bumgarner, that meant yelling at Muncy. "Just do your thing, I'll do mine".

Walker Buehler got the start on the mound and turned in one of his best outings of the season, blanking the Giants over seven innings.

Pedro Baéz worked around a walk in the eighth, and Kenley Jansen struck out two in a ideal ninth for his 19th save in 21 chances to complete the Dodgers' major league-high ninth shutout this season.

This was nearly certainly Bumgarner's last start against the Dodgers at Oracle Park, and there's a good chance it was one of his final starts in San Francisco, period.

Mike Yastrzemski led off with a single, the first Giants leadoff hitter to reach base. Buehler then retired Stephen Vogt and Kevin Pillar on flyouts.

In a series in which they couldn't get the big hit, they didn't get much of anything Sunday, squeezing five hits against Walker Buehler and the Dodgers bullpen. Buster Posey (right hamstring strain) ran on a treadmill before the game and will run the bases during Monday's off day. Tyler Beede (0-2, 8.15) will be seeking his first Major League victory against the Padres Chris Paddack (4-4, 2.97) in the opener.
