Real Madrid's manager said that in April 2010, nearly a decade ago, when the Frenchman was just about to return to the Bernabéu as presidential adviser and Hazard was 19 and playing for Lille.

Belgium boss Roberto Martinez believes Eden Hazard is the "perfect fit" for Real Madrid.

Before that Hazard will be hoping to lead his national team to victory in the Euro 2020 qualifiers as they welcome Scotland to the King Baudouin Stadium in Brussels on Tuesday night.

His relationship with Karim Benzema will go a long way to determining whether or not next season is a success at the Bernabeu, but how he worked with Olivier Giroud at Chelsea suggests that Real Madrid fans could be in for a treat in 2019/20.

He becomes Real Madrid's second major signing after Eintracht Frankfurt's Luka Jovic, in a summer of rebuilding in Zidane's second spell as manager.

Ronaldo's departure created a void up front that Madrid failed to fill last season, the team struggling for goals en route to finishing 19 points behind Barcelona in La Liga and crashing out to Ajax in the last 16 of the Champions League.

Hazard's arrival also adds more uncertainty around the future of Gareth Bale, who has played both on the left and right of the attacking trio in recent months but is clearly not part of Zidane's plans.

Belgian footballer Eden Hazard has recently joined Real Madrid from Chelsea.

And despite their current transfer ban for two years, Chelsea are said to have made €70m offer for Valencia star Goncalo Guedes.

If Madrid pay the full amount, Chelsea stand to make a profit of more than €100 million, having signed Hazard for close to €40 million from Lille in 2012.
