Dota Underlords is Valve’s Auto Chess, and the beta is out now

When Open Beta kicks off, Dota Underlords will become available for free via Steam, iOS, and Android. In a surprise move by Valve their new game, Dota Underlords, has been pushed to a live beta stage.

"For the last few weeks, we've been running a Friends and Family Beta, and today we're expanding it to include all Dota 2 Battle Pass owners", Valve wrote on the DotA 2 blog.

Valve made the decision to release the game in the light of the success of the custom mod from Drodo Studios. The game is Valve's upcoming standalone version of a popular Dota 2 mod called Auto Chess, a game that can be played essentially inside of Dota 2 but outside the realm of that game's standard genre and gameplay format.

Play online against seven other players.

Valve is going to be holding an open beta for the game in the near future though it hasn't yet mentioned any specific day or time for when the open beta launches.

If you own the Dota 2 Battle Pass, you'll find a link to Dota Underlords on the Dota 2 dashboard in your Steam library; if you don't own it and want to, hit up dota2.com and get ready to spend a tenner.

However, when the game enters open beta proper, which is due in about a week, everyone will be able to download the game and participate. It might be an upcoming feature of the Battle Pass or it might just require tickets, more like Artifact players needed tickets to access different game modes.

Auto Chess is catching on in the MOBA crowd at the moment. Of course, the big unspoken reason is likely that the standalone version of Auto Chess is now an Epic Games exclusive, and is a pawn in Epic's war against Valve. Rank and progression is also shared across all supported devices so you'll be able to play on multiple devices too, if you wish, without having to worry about losing any progress you've made on other platforms.

This feature is not now available as the mobile versions are set to launch with the beginning of open beta.
