As is typically the case, PS4 will be left out of the cross-play party, likely due to Sony's draconian stance on the feature. As to why it's decided on this particular story with Shadowkeep, the Moon is a fan-favourite at Bungie, so it was an obvious choice to return there. Whereas the Destiny 1 expansions rounded out to be "Monster of the week" the hopes with Shadowkeeper is to create a more direct path so that the universe seems like it's growing and moving in a direction. Journey deep into a mysterious enemy citadel. New Light and Shadowkeep will release on September 17th, 2019.

Destiny 2 Game Director Luke Smith enthused about this new chapter, as cross-save and cross-platform technology along with the move to free-to-play will reach a lot more players in more platforms. The game will also feature cross-save between the service, PC and Xbox One. Players will pop back to Earth's gloomy neighbour to help out Eris Morn slay the source of her "haunting visions" before it knocks Earth into another dark age.
