Leeds win 1-0 at Derby in playoff semi-final first leg

After the first leg of the play-off semi final between Derby County and Leeds United, it is advantage to Marcelo Bielsa's men.

It was Whelan's mistake which allowed West Brom striker Dwight Gayle pounce to give the visitors an interval lead, but just eight minutes after replacing fellow his worldwide team-mate, Hourihane struck from outside the box to draw the sides level. It wasn't - I can't understand it. The referee gave it, but the linesman has decided it was clear enough to not be a penalty. Bogle has got his leg across, there's not huge contact, but enough that he's in front of him before he gets there.

"For the linesman to decide by himself and for the referee to accept that decision, making him completely wrong, is really hard to understand".

Villa fought back from a goal down to claim a 2-1 win over West Brom in a lunchtime kick-off on Saturday, placing one foot in the final ahead of tomorrow's second leg at The Hawthorns.

There was little to separate the two sides for large parts of the clash, yet Leeds managed to edge themselves 10 minutes after the break when Kemar Roofe tucked home following Jack Harrison's cross.

"We all know the intensity of this game - it's big between the clubs and that ramped up in January for obvious reasons", Derby manager Frank Lampard said. He has been playing well for them as well, scoring 7 times in 13 games this season.

Kiko Casilla did brilliantly to smother the ball at the feet of Harry Wilson after he was played in by Duane Holmes, while Fikayo Tomori was lucky to escape with just a talking to from the referee following a poor two-footed tackle on Shackleton.

Roofe bagged his 15th goal of the campaign, and his fourth against Derby this season, to hand United a slender lead heading into the return leg in LS11.

"Of course they are the favourites and more so because of that result, but we're still in it".

"As long as we do what we do best and prepare correctly and put 100 per cent in then we've got a good chance".
