Amanda Eller, 35, went hiking in Hawaii's Makawao Forest Reserve on May 8 but became lost when she walked deeper into the reserve, which covers more than 800 hectares, instead of heading back to her auto as she believed.

Amanda Eller, 35, was rescued Friday beside a creek bed at the bottom of a ravine in a national forest on Maui after she was spotted by a helicopter.

A jogger who spent 17 days lost and injured in a dense jungle on the Hawaiian island of Maui - where she survived by eating wild fruits and even a few moths she was able to catch - has been rescued.

A woman who went missing two weeks ago in Maui has been found alive. Her disappearance inspired a joint search and rescue effort by multiple agencies, which found her vehicle in a parking lot at the reserve.

Her mother, Julia Eller, told KHON that her daughter's leg was fractured and would require additional treatment, but she was otherwise in "surprisingly good shape".

Javier Cantellops, one of the rescuers, told CNN that Eller was walking barefoot in a ravine, waving her arms at them.

They felt reassured by the fact that the forest had many water sources that could help Eller survive until she was found.

The Honolulu newspaper also reported that a photo was posted to a Facebook page tracking the search, showing a smiling Eller with what appeared to be injuries to her face and dirt on her clothing. John Eller said that one of the men who had found his daughter was Javier Cantellops, the outlet reported. She was airlifted to a hospital and expected to make a full recovery. I think there was some disbelief there - 'Are you serious?

Olenik, who met Eller when the two worked together in St. Petersburg, is part of a Facebook group chat that Eller's friends used to keep in touch after she went missing. "It looks like she lost a little weight, got a really good suntan". It is believed she went for a jog.

"We found Amanda because we did it right".

Konkol said he and Eller have been dating for about a year. She just talk to her father on the phone.

"She was well-educated in that", Bulatovic said, Hawaii News Now reported. Your work, determination and sacrifice has helped return her to her loving family.

"She's my soulmate, she's the love of my life and I feel that she's still out there". And there were times of total fear and loss and wanted to give up and it did come down to life or death and I had to choose - and I chose life.
