Gov. signs proclamation for Children's Mental Health Awareness


As we are in the month of May, let's take the time to focus on the awareness needing to be made in regards to mental health. Mental health includes our emotional, psychological, and social well-being.

According to Rethink Mental Illness, "being mentally healthy is about having the strength to overcome the difficulties and challenges we can all face in our lives and to have confidence and self-esteem to be able to make decisions and to believe in ourselves".

In America today, approximately 45-47 million, or 1 out of 5 Americans, is suffering with a mental health issue; and approximately 1 in 25 adults is now experiencing a serious mental illness that substantially interferes with one or more major life activities.

However, she says stigma on this issue and other mental health conditions is a big barrier.

This week marks Mental Health Week and the Canadian Mental Health Association is inviting everybody to get loud for mental health.
