Downton Abbey movie: first trailer promises warring butlers and mega-Maggie

It will soon be time to revisit the halls of Downton Abbey.

Geraldine James, Robert James-Collier, Simon Jones, Allen Leech, Phyllis Logan, Elizabeth McGovern, Sophie McShera, Tuppence Middleton, Stephen Campbell Moore, Lesley Nicol, Kate Phillips, Maggie Smith, Imelda Staunton, Penelope Wilton are all also returning for the film.

Cape Town - Fans of British drama Downton Abbey will thrill to once again see Lady Mary and the whole gang in a new feature-length film. They get a letter saying that the royal family are going to visit.

As the two-and-a-half minute trailer reveals, the film takes place in 1927 - about a year and a half after the TV series ended - and everyone at Downton is preparing for the arrival of two very special guests.

The Downton Abbey movie isn't scheduled to land in theatres until September 20. "I believe Mrs Levinson left a bag of them in the Blue Room on her last visit".

This means a prior inspection by ferocious royal butler David Haig, who locks horns with the staff, before facing off against veteran help Mr Carson (Jim Carter) in a battle for silver service supremacy.

Downton Abbey, which will also star series regulars Maggie Smith, Michelle Dockery, Matthew Goode, and Elizabeth McGovern, will arrive in cinemas on September 13. "So we locked Julian Fellowes in a room for three years and made him come up with the script that we have today".
