Apple introduces first 8-core MacBook Pro, the fastest Mac notebook ever

The MacBook Pro keyboard features a butterfly mechanism that Apple claims provides four times more key stability than a traditional scissor mechanism.

You can customize and order your brand new MacBook Pro 2019 online right now or wait until later this week to grab one in an Apple Store or an Apple Authorized Reseller near you.

Though Apple believes that this change will greatly reduce the issue, it is also including all butterfly keyboards across its notebook line into its Keyboard Service Program. It declined to provide details about the materials.

Additionally, Apple is making improvements to its fix processes to shorten turnaround times. It doesn't mean a new-style MacBook Pro couldn't be in the offing next month or later this year, but it definitely makes that report a bit more of a head-scratcher.

At least three proposed class action lawsuits have been filed against Apple over the use of the butterfly switch. That means some people who bought a 13 inch MacBook in April 2015, when the new model came out, do not qualify for a free fix. That program covered MacBooks released from 2015 to 2017. The company is, however, expanding its servicing program for affected butterfly keyboards to help resolve the issues with the previous (and current) generation devices. The problem gained mainstream attention after Joanna Stern's damning Wall Street Journal video.

Apple has been through all kinds of hardware controversies over the years, many of which have had far more lofty names than they truly deserved, but the case of the butterfly keyboards has been long-standing and widespread. The free repairs only apply to 2016 MacBook Pros with or without the Touch Bar.

Fix programs, in general, sort of suck. It didn't give details on the length of time because that will vary based on a variety of factors. Replacing a MacBook keyboard is also notoriously annoying, since you can't really replace a single broken key and must replace the entire upper half of the laptop.

What do you think about these new MacBook Pro's?

That's cool - faster performance is always appreciated especially if you do things like video editing - but the most important change is to the controversial "butterfly" keyboards.

The 13-inch MacBook Pro with Touch Bar is getting less of an update.

"Apple has announced new 13.3" and 15.4" MacBook Pros which include 8th- and 9th-generation Intel Cor processors.

The 15-inch MacBook Pro features faster six- and eight-core Intel Core processors, delivering Turbo Boost speeds up to 5.0 GHz, while the 13-inch MacBook Pro with Touch Bar features faster quad-core processors with Turbo Boost speeds up to 4.7 GHz. "Now with 8-core processors for an incredible performance boost, along with its stunning Retina display, fast storage, all-day battery life and running macOS, MacBook Pro continues to be the world's best pro notebook", said Tom Boger, Apple's senior director of Mac Product Marketing.
