The Snapdragon 665 seems to be intended as the successor to the Snapdragon 660. The chip maker says that the new chips are created to offer customers "exciting experiences" in gaming, AI and performance. Only three new SoCs were announced for this target market but they could be significant for device makers and buyers as they include the first "elite gaming" tuned Snapdragon the Snapdragon 730G.
The Snapdragon 730 will be the first system-on-chip in Qualcomm's 7 series to include a tensor accelerator. The latest additions to the Snapdragon 700 series could lead to some lower cost gaming phones that can also deliver performance gains, especially in the case of the gaming-centric Snapdragon 730G.
In the camera department, it features Qualcomm Spectra 350 ISP, which should help in taking better photos and videos. The chipset also supports triple-cameras with ultra-wide, portrait and telephoto lenses. It will record 4K HDR video in Portrait mode.
With the Snapdragon 730G - three guesses as to what the G stands for - Qualcomm is promising a 25 percent boost in graphics rendering over the Snapdragon 710, thanks to the Adreno 618 GPU in the 730G. This means that the chip will provide gamers with improved graphics and longer battery life. Qualcomm is also promising noise reduction technology for its ISP, and cameras powered by the Snapdragon 665 will be able to offer 3D face unlocking as well - another feature now confined to high-end phones.

The Snapdragon 665 SoC is outfitted with an Adreno 610 GPU, Hexagon 686 DSP, Snapdragon X12 LTE modem and only supports Wi-Fi 5. Each iteration of Snapdragon drives vast innovation that will surpass customer expectations."-Kedar Kondap, vice president, product management, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc".
But Cristiano Amon, Qualcomm's president and the chief of its chip division, said the San Diego company is taking a different approach by aiming to serve the smaller, simpler data centers that are proliferating around the world so that consumers can benefit from faster response times for their internet-connected apps.
The Snapdragon 730G takes the lead with a CPU score of 86915 points. The chip also makes sure that players aren't cheating, and the Wi-Fi latency manager keeps gameplay running smoothly. Users will also be able to command the phone using Qualcomm's 4th-generation AI engine, the Hexagon 688. It's 2X faster than the previous generation and provides intuitive on-device interactions for camera, gaming, voice, and security.
The Spectra 350 Dual 14-bit ISP that's used in the Snapdragon 730 chipset supports up to 192MP camera sensors. IT can manage OCR and HEIF which is an image container that leverages modern codecs like HEVC to improve quality, compression, and capabilities over earlier formats like JPEG, GIF, and PNG. It is also the first Snapdragon 7xx series chipset with support for CV-ISP (computer vision image signal processor) and it supports hybrid autofocus.
