Promoted to the first power-play unit because of Kadri's suspension, Johnsson made it 3-1 with his first-career playoff goal with 2:48 left in the period when he roofed a backhand over Rask after a nice feed from Tavares as Toronto connected for a second time on the man advantage after going 0 for 4 in the first two games.

Kadri and DeBrusk have developed something of a personal rivalry over the course of this young series, with the two getting tangled up Game 1 and exchanging words from their respective benches. This is game three of a best-of-seven series, which is tied at one game apiece.

Kadri's and Babcock's future in doubt?

"He's got to compete at a high level with and without the puck". "We've lost him before".

"I feel great. We won, it was fun". "We need other people to step up. Then obviously we start from there".

NBC Sports Washington analyst Alan May said prior to Game 3 that the play was unsafe and should be one that's kept out of the league, and therefore, the punishment should have been more severe. He is an excellent third line center and is under a good contract. Nylander provided a solid defensive effort. The trio of Frederik Gauthier between Trevor Moore and Tyler Ennis was in extreme hustle mode all night and was rewarded with the first goal of the game early in the second period when Moore stuffed a loose puck past Boston goalie Tuukka Rask. During the regular season, Boston ranked 3rd in the league in power play conversions at 25.9% and 16th in penalty kill at 79.9%. Kadri looked to be injured but no penalty was called on DeBrusk. Kadri cross-checked DeBrusk in the third period after a series of physical exchanges throughout the game, earning himself a five-minute major and a game misconduct.

With so many variables, I am passing on this game entirely but there is another game that has my betting attention.

There's an explanation and video of that play. "Instead, this is a player retaliating against an opponent by using his stick as a weapon to make forceful and direct head contact". Don't be the least bit surprised if Saturday night was the last you ever see Nazem Kadri in a Maple Leaf uniform and his crosscheck to DeBrusk his last indiscretion.

"The only problem with Kadri's hit [on DeBrusk] is he didn't take the top f-ing row of DeBrusk's teeth out", Avery said. Debrusk would catch Patrick Marleau with a hit along the sideboards.

Bruce Arthur of the Toronto Star: Toronto Maple Leafs forward Nazem Kadri will have his in-person hearing today.

Here's Kadri's suspension history. He had missed 14 games from his previous four bans.

This is the third straight spring the Leafs have qualified for the playoffs and they are attempting to capture the franchise's first series win since 2004. However, things took a dramatic shift for the 2013 Leafs when they went on to lose two at home, allowing 9 goals and being pushed to the brink of elimination. As it stands right now, they have just $3.7 million in cap space next season and are faced with the prospect of signing Mitch Marner, Kasperi Kapanen and Andreas Johnsson, the last of which has arbitration rights, as restricted free agents and likely replacing Jake Gardiner and Ron Hainsey.
