DMK, NCP approach election authorities to seek ban on Narendra Modi biopic

One of the posters released by the makers names Javed Akhtar as one of the song writers of the movie which surprised the renowned poet and lyricist. Except, the poet-lyricist says he has not written songs for "PM Narendra Modi".

The trailer was launched at a multiplex in Mumbai by the film's cast and crew.

Along with the tweet, he shared the picture of the credits of the film in which the makers have given him credit for writing a song along with other lyricists Prasoon Joshi, Sameer, Abhendra Kumar Upadhyay, Sardaraa, Parry G and Lavraj. Akhtar wrote in a tweet on Friday.

Trailer of Vivek Oberoi's film PM Narendra Modi released this Holi and was appreciated widely. The film has been directed by seasoned biopic director Omung Kumar, who also has Sarbjit and Mary Kom to his credit.

The film has been called "propaganda by the BJP to influence" voters during the Lok Sabha elections by the opposition.

His post was retweeted by his wife, veteran actor Shabana Azmi.

Some political parties have also petitioned India's election commission to stop release of the movie during elections. "I think we should be careful about it".

With this, netizens seem to have stirred up a storm and now a hot trend on Twitter is "a propaganda film", referring to the biopic which is scheduled to release just ahead of the first phase of Lok Sabha elections. The film also stars Boman Irani, Manoj Joshi, Prashant Narayanan, Zarina Wahab, Barkha Sengupta and Anjan Shrivastav. The movie will hit the screens on April 12, 2019.
