Now 30 years later, it's back in the Windy City to launch special edition that celebrates the milestone.

Just 3 000 cars will be produced globally, and fittingly for one of the world's biggest MX-5 markets, the United Kingdom will receive 600 - 400 convertible and 200 RF. But if you absolutely must have this paint color and interior trim, be aware that Mazda has a habit of adding special-edition paint colors to their regular production palette the following model year. According to Mazda, it's a throwback to the 1989 MX-5 Miata Club Racer. However, that auto was yellow, not orange, so it's hard to see the connection.

The hue carries over to other parts of the vehicle too. The bespoke Alcantara RECARO racing seats also sport piping in a similar orange as well.

The vehicle rides on specially-designed black RAYS ZE40 RS30 forged alloy wheels and Bilstein dampers.

Whether you like MX-5s or not, there can be no denying the impact it's had on the world of sports cars.

As for the powertrain, it goes largely untouched. The suspension gets Bilstein-tuned dampers along with a strut brace to ratchet up the fun on twisty roads. Manual cars also get a limited-slip differential.

As far as other options, there aren't many.

The 30th Anniversary package builds on the Miata's most expensive Grand Touring trim, and adds more than $4,200 to the bottom line. If you want the soft top, it'll be $34,995, and if you want the RF, you're looking at $37,595. The Miata already is one of our favorite cars on the market, and it was made even better for the 2019 model year with the addition of a new, higher-revving engine. The UK, always a big market for the auto, will have a decent allocation, at least - 600 cars are coming to our shores.

Pricing for the 30th Anniversary does command a bit of a premium too. It produces 184 PS along with 205 Nm of torque, and can be mated to either a six-speed manual or automatic transmission.
