Four Hulu Marvel Animated Shows on the Way

Much like the four original Netflix series, all four of these animated Hulu shows will be set in the same universe, and the characters will eventually meet in a crossover series called The Offenders.

Tigra & Dazzler will be written and co-executive produced by Erica Rivinoja and Chelsea Handler. The chatty fowl be brought back to screens by avowed comicbook nut (and occasional writer) Kevin Smith alongside Aqua Teen Hunger Force veteran Dave Willis.

Finally, Marvel's Howard The Duck focuses on the travails of the talking duck character first created by Steve Gerber as a play on a classic "funny animal" character trapped in a world he never made.

The M.O.D.O.K. cartoon will follow everyone's favorite giant evil floating head struggling to lead his henchmen and comes from writers Jordan Blum and Patton Oswalt (who we pray is also playing the lead role).

Hulu and Marvel Television have partnered to produce four adult animated series, Variety has learned.

Of the celebrity names on that list, Smith and Oswalt stand out as contributors with significant comics experience-though Smith has always been associated with DC heroes like Batman and Green Arrow. Oswalt is repped by UTA and Generate. Hit-Monkey tells the tale of a wronged Japanese snow monkey, mentored by the ghost of an American assassin, as he cuts a wide swath through the Tokyo underworld. They are repped by CAA and Management 360.

Hit-Monkey: "Marvel's Hit-Monkey tells the tale of a wronged Japanese snow monkey, mentored by the ghost of an American assassin, as he cuts a wide swath through the Tokyo underworld in this darkly cinematic and brutally amusing revenge saga". Jeph Loeb will executive produce. Rivinoja worked on the story for the film Girls Trip and her previous writing credits include shows like The Last Man on Earth, South Park, and Grounded for Life. Handler is repped by UTA and Azoff MSG Entertainment.

As with the Avengers and Defenders, The Offenders will be four separate series that lead into one big team up event. Most of those were canceled in recent months, though season three of Jessica Jones has yet to air.

Marvel TV boss Jeph Loeb will executive produce all of the shows, just as he did for the various Netflix series. A fifth show, The Punisher starring Jon Bernthal, debuted its second season in January and a decision regarding its future is still pending. Launching adult animated series on the platform is a bold move; it will be interesting to see how things shake out.
