Chicago Cops Examine Phone Records, Bleach Bottle In 'Empire' Incident

According to a recent report from Page Six, two neighbors of Empire Star Jussie Smollett have allegedly come forward to say that the actor is lying about being attacked in a hate crime.

But, Police say smollett will be held accountable if the investigation reveals he filed a false report.

An unidentified patron at Lizzie McNeill's Irish Pub, a bar located in the same neighborhood as Smollett 's building, told the Post that the actor's claims are "a lie" because "Chicago is the most liberal city around".

A threatening letter and drawing to Smollett was sent to the Fox television studio in Chicago on January 22, police told ABC News, and it contained a powdery substance that investigators believe was likely crushed-up Tylenol.

Smollett told authorities he was on the phone with his manager when he was attacked.

"We obviously can't use redacted records, we have to have the whole record to show it wasn't tampered with at all", Guglielmi said.

Cops have said they found plenty of surveillance video, but none that captured the incident.

Cops requested Smollett's phone records to confirm statements that he was on a call with his manager Brandon Z.

Numerous media outlets ran with a TMZ report saying the openly gay actor was beaten up after walking out of a Subway restaurant around 2 two white men wearing ski masks who asked, "Aren't you that f***ot "Empire" n*****?" before pouring bleach on him, putting a noose around his neck, and yelling, "This is MAGA country!"- a reference to President Donald Trump's 2016 campaign slogan, "Make America Great Again". "Despite my frustrations and deep concern with certain inaccuracies and misrepresentations that have been spread, I still believe that justice will be served".

He later submitted the redacted phone records that detectives have judged to be "insufficient". "They have cameras everywhere".

Muhammad reportedly lives in the same high-rise as Smollett.

Smollett's spokesperson told The Post that he "is the victim here" and "Chicago PD has repeatedly informed us that they find Jussie's account of what happened that night consistent and credible", the statement read.

However, the Chicago Police Department appears to be dismissing the evidence because they didn't find it, "It's unclear if that is related to the incident as it was not discovered during any of the earlier canvasses but we took it for analysis".
