AAF QB Mike Bercovici gets helmet knocked off on huge hit

The Alliance of American Football's debut on Saturday night was not without its highlights. "We started with nothing and we're going to open it up on Saturday with eight teams playing what I think will be pretty good football". "We look at the NFL as, we're going to support your existence, let them play in your league, put content on your network".

Tonight the Alliance of American Football gave Orlando professional football again as a thankful and loud crowd at Spectrum Stadium welcomed the Orlando Apollos home in a big way.

There are no extra points; every touchdown is followed by a two-point conversion attempt. Here's a look at Marshall's touchdown pass to quarterback Garrett Gilbert. The score was initially ruled incomplete but with the sky judge reviewing the play, the call on the field was reversed. Wide receiver Charles Johnson led all receivers with four catches for 60 yards.

Running back Akeem Hunt had 10 rushes for 73 yards.

Defensively, Orlando dominated Atlanta. The right tackle and left tackles seemed to be trying to hold on for dear life at times, leading to Atlanta having to chip the Orlando edge rushers with a tight end or running back. They also had three interceptions with linebacker Terence Garvin having two of them and returning one 51-yards for a touchdown.

If you're involved with the AAF, you're extremely happy with these numbers. From a Philly special to an epic hit on quarterback Mike Bercovici, the opening two games offered plenty of excitement. The newest professional football league kicked off with two games in prime time on Saturday and now the other four teams in the league will get their chance on Sunday. Some of the players with National Football League experience have not played in years, and we have already seen a few of these players get beat out for starting jobs.

According to TVByTheNumbers, almost 3.2 million people watched the pregame and 2.91 million stuck with the broadcast for the actual action between the Orlando Apollos vs. Atlanta Legends and the San Antonio Commanders vs. San Diego Fleet. That game will be played on February 17 at 4PM EST. Ratings will be harder when the games are on CBS Sports Network and not CBS in primetime.
