Jeff Bezos, 54, and wife MacKenzie, 48, announced their divorce through a statement on Twitter on Wednesday after 25 years of marriage.

"After a long period of loving exploration and trial separation, we have made a decision to divorce and continue our shared lives as friends", the couple said in the statement issued today via the Amazon CEO's Twitter account.

"Jeff remains focused on and engaged in all aspects of Amazon", a company spokesperson said in a statement. The National Enquirer is publishing in its latest edition what it calls a four-month investigation tracking Bezos's time spent with former Fox LA TV anchor Lauren Sanchez, the wife of Hollywood talent agent Patrick Whitesell.

Bezos and MacKenzie announced their divorce in a joint statement on Wednesday following a trial separation. Virtually all of that is tied up in the almost 79 million shares of Amazon stock that he owns.

The other woman: former So You Think You Can Dance host Laura Sanchez.

Bacarella, however, said he is not concerned because even if MacKenzie Bezos liquidated a stake that could be as high as 8 per cent, there would be no fundamental reason behind the sale.

Bezos, who was recently named the richest man in the world, and wife MacKenzie Bezos announced their split in a statement on the billionaire's Twitter account on Wednesday, writing that they had chose to continue their "shared lives as friends".

Reports revealed Whitesell and Sanchez, who have two children, had been officially separated since fall. She also has a 17-year-old son with ex Tony Gonzalez.

She and Bezos were seen together in Los Angeles on Sunday, the day of the Golden Globes and at Amazon's after-party, the Post reported.

Sources told the New York Post that Bezos and Sanchez began hooking up in early 2018 after separating from their spouses.

Citing "sources with direct knowledge", TMZ reports that the Bezos' did not have a prenuptial agreement, so their assets will be split down the middle.

Half of that money could be handed over to Mackenzie under Washington state law.

No information is available on how the couple are dealing with the financial implication of the divorce.

"When you are talking over US$100 billion there is enough to go around".

Even if Bezos were exempted from filing a Form 4, he would be required to update promptly the record of his Amazon holdings on file with the SEC if his position in the company changed by 1 per cent or more, said D.C. securities lawyer Thomas Gorman.
