Flu season is in full swing in the Hudson Valley, with dozens of reported cases now being treated by doctors in the area. That's four fewer states than the previous week.

Doctors at Wilson N Jones say from October to December of 2018, they saw 12 flu cases. Three children's deaths related to the flu were reported in the week ending January 5, bringing the pediatric death toll to 16 for this season, according to the CDC.

Instead of relying on people to get vaccinated every year, scientists are getting closer to a flu vaccine that would last through multiple seasons, called a universal flu vaccine.

Now, doctors say there are certain risk factors that can make it more likely for someone to develop complications from the flu. This means that ARGONet will be the most accurate program to estimate influenza activity and that it can report all the USA flu activity a week ahead of the traditional reports.
