It is believed that the gunman was David Ian Long, a 28-year-old military veteran. Instagram and Facebook typically refuse to discuss individual accounts and did not respond to a request for comment.
Investigators have not established a motive for the shooting or an indication of any connection to terrorism and knew of nothing that connected Long to the Borderline Bar and Grill. But a mental health specialist who assessed Long after sheriff's deputies responded to a call about his agitated behaviour last spring anxious he might be suffering from PTSD.
Neighbours reported hearing frequent loud rows between Long and his mother, one of them so extreme they called police in April. Winnett described Long as a "great" roommate who was often quiet and secluded, but never inspired any red flags to Winnett about his mental health. "I don't want thoughts", she pleaded emphatically.

Orfanos was enlisted by paramedics to help drag the bodies of the dead and injured from the line of fire, he said.
Officials said Long, a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, used a legally purchased.45-caliber handgun outfitted with an extended magazine and deployed a smoke device during the attack. "Every Marine is a marksman".

Colell further noted that while some have contended that Long's act of violence could be a result of PTSD after serving in Afghanistan, she believes that he had anger issues and emotional problems long prior. "Oh heavenly father, please be with him.Oh Cody, I love you son". "If he talks, just acknowledge him, don't go into conversation with him, '" Don MacLeod said Thursday.
Long made others feel uncomfortable going back to his teens.
A high school track coach said she was afraid of Long as a student.
Long attacked her during a dispute over a cellphone, Colell said.
"The fact that he was the first in the door doesn't surprise me at all", said Sergeant Eric Buschow.
"What I'm scared of is Cody went towards the action and not away from the action", he said.
Ms Colell said she wanted to kick Long off the team but the boy's coach urged her to reconsider because that could compromise his goal of joining the Marines.
Long complained to another coach, who questioned Colell's decision, she recalled.
