The Blackcaps have been sent 280 for victory in the third and final one day global against Pakistan in Dubai. New Zealand, missing injured regular captain Kane Williamson, was 35-1 in 6.5 overs when rain in Dubai prevented further play and both teams shared the series 1-1.

A six-wicket victory with 57 balls to spare has seen Pakistan level the series at 1-1 ahead of Monday morning's decider, and they were remarkably untroubled in doing so.

When rain stopped play, George Worker was unbeaten on 18 and Henry Nicholls was 15 not out. Latham hurled the ball towards the non-striker's end, there was no backup and this enabled Pakistan another run.

Fakhar Zaman (65) helped Pakistan get off to the start they were after, then it was splendid knocks from Babar Azam (92) and Haris Sohail (60) helped Pakistan set 280 for the Blackcaps to chase.

Pakistan only managed 38 runs in the last 5 overs as New Zealand bowlers were on target, particularly "Lockie" Ferguson, who varied his pace and length to restrict the total down to 279-8.

Zaman and Hafeez were unruffled by New Zealand in a 64-run first-wicket stand before Hafeez went too deep in his crease while playing Ferguson and was out hit wicket as he dislodged the bails with his back heel.

With swing at a minimum for the senior Black Caps bowlers, Ferguson had the Pakistan batsmen ducking and diving, changed his angles to around the wicket and felled Imam-ul-Haq who was too slow on a bouncer in game two.

The test series begins at Abu Dhabi from November 16, which also hosts the third test from December 3.

Lockie Ferguson is the team's leading wicket-taker with six wickets in two games, while Trent Boult notched up a three-wicket haul in the first game.
