Newlyweds killed in helicopter crash hours after wedding in US


According to university newspaper the Houstonian, Will Byler had been studying agricultural engineering, and Bailee Ackerman Byler was studying agricultural communication.

Authorities located the crashed helicopter around daybreak, according to reports.

The National Transportation Safety Board says it's investigating the crash and the cause is not yet known.

The pilot, named by ABC13 as Vietnam veteran Gerald Green Lawrence, was also killed.

Family members told local media that Will Byler and Bailee Ackerman, both 23, died when the chopper they boarded to depart their wedding reception went down shortly after take-off.

"We celebrated their fairy tale wedding and they were surrounded by their family and friends as they flew off in the family helicopter", family friend Eric Smith wrote on Facebook.

The Uvalde County Sheriff's Office said the department received the call at around midnight Saturday about the crash in the northwest part of the county.

Engagement photos posted on the website show Mr Byler in his cowboy hat embracing Ms Ackerman.

The Federal Aviation Administration, which is assisting, said the aircraft "crashed under unknown circumstances in a remote area".

And friend Madi Wagner said she took comfort that the couple's last day alive was spent celebrating with their loved ones, adding: 'I believe it was truly the best day of their lives'. "When Bailee met Will she completely fell in love".
