Girl, 10, charged with killing baby in day care

A 10-year-old girl was charged with murder after she allegedly "stomped" on a baby's head, killing him.

The district attorney says the girl panicked and stomped on the child's head until he stopped.

Chippewa County Sheriff Jim Kowalczyk said the girl is in juvenile custody and has been charged with first-degree intentional homicide.

The caller said a six-month-old male was bleeding from the head and was unresponsive.

The boy was rushed to a hospital in St. Paul, Minnesota, but didn't survive. He was pronounced dead November 1, according to the Tribune.

"She stated she was holding the child and that's when she dropped [him]", Newell said.

It has not been revealed whether or not she has a relationship with the victim, with officials also refusing to say which daycare center the tragedy happened at. Accompanied by her parents, she sobbed throughout the 10-minute hearing, where Circuit Judge James Isaacson ordered her held on $50,000 cash bond.

She panicked when the boy started crying and stamped on his head, the court heard.

The girl is now in the adult court system and appeared in Chippewa County Court on Monday morning.

A doctor there told cops that the baby's death was not an accident, according to WEAU.
