Consumers have long heralded Amazon for its free two-day shipping for Prime accounts on eligible items, prompting other big-box retailers such as Target and Walmart to offer free expedited shipping during the holiday season as well.
Amazon already offered free 2-day shipping to Amazon Prime subscribers, which is why Target made free 2-day shipping for its customers.
"We know many of our customers are starting to think about Christmas presents, parties and decorations at this time of year and we're excited to offer great deals when shoppers need them most" said Doug Gurr, Country Manager at Amazon UK. While the perk lasts only for a "limited time", Amazon explains the promotion will affect orders that arrive in time for the Christmas holiday.

FBN's Cheryl Casone on Amazon reportedly nearing a decision on the location of its second headquarters and the company waiving its purchase minimum for free shipping on holiday orders. In the wake of Walmart's change, it lowered the threshold twice that same year: to $35, and then to the current non-promotional threshold of $25.
As part of the Black Friday event, Amazon will offer "Deals of the Day" throughout that will see dramatic price cuts on "must-have electronics, toys and fashion to sports, beauty, home items and more".
For the current quarter ending in December, Amazon said it expects revenue in the range of $66.5 billion to $72.5 billion.
About $720 billion in sales are up for grabs for the Black Friday shopping weekend, according to the National Retail Federation.
The move makes hundreds of millions of items eligible for free shipping. The company usually sets the final date toward the end of the season.
