Dodgers Go Ahead 3-2 In NLCS Behind Strong Kershaw Start

The Dodgers, ahead 3-2 in the series, jumped on the Brewers bullpen in the middle innings, building a cushion for Kershaw, who remained in the game to bat in the seventh but was removed after the inning.

Los Angeles Dodgers center fielder Cody Bellinger (35) hits an RBI single to defeat the Milwaukee Brewers in the thirteenth inning in game four of the 2018 NLCS playoff baseball series at Dodger Stadium.

It wasn't until the bottom of the fifth inning that Los Angeles struck back. "We're up 3-2 now and we only have to take one of two in Milwaukee".

Taylor's hustle in running to first, which helped cause the error, advancing to second and then stealing third was nearly infectious, as a series of little things helped the Dodgers win a second consecutive playoff game without hitting a home run. In eight of those 12 starts, Kershaw allowed one earned run or less in at least six innings of work. Santana also had a two-run pinch single in Game 1.

"We talked a little bit about getting back to our approach of seeing pitches and making pitchers work", Taylor said. "I don't think I'd single those two guys out, I think there's a bunch of guys we need to get going, and we will". The Dodgers could only muster five hits and struck out 14 times in a game that was largely uncompetitive.

Kershaw will get the start when the Dodgers face the Brewers in Game 5 on Wednesday. The Brewers were up only 1-0 at the time, but there have been moments in this series where that has seemed like an insurmountable deficit for the Dodgers.

Tuesday's clash was tied at 1-1 through five innings.

The Brewers' Curtis Granderson had a pinch-hit RBI double in the ninth inning off Ryan Madson. "It was huge to get to third base, less than two outs, give us a shot to do some things, and him going to second base on the errant throw was big". Justin Turner delivered an RBI single in the inning as part of an afternoon he reached base three times.

With the chance to move to the brink of the World Series, a lineup that was resourceful and powerful throughout the regular season and in the division series couldn't hit a homer or string together any significant rallies.

The Dodgers will now look to close out the NLCS in Game 6 on Friday and advance to the World Series for a second consecutive season.

And when Bellinger finally ended it, the only NLCS game that had lasted longer was the New York Mets' 15-inning victory over Atlanta in Game 5 in 1999, which took 5 hours, 46 minutes.
