New York Knicks rookie Kevin Knox left Saturday's game against the Boston Celtics with a left ankle sprain. Thomas responded with a 3-pointer 10-seconds later, but Tatum drained a contested turnaround jumper to give the Celtics a 101-98 lead with 21.1 seconds left. But Burke missed the first free throw.

Boston seemed to be regaining control early in the fourth quarter but again the Knicks came back, tying it at 89 on consecutive 3-pointers by Hardaway.

Stevens said the team's medical staff decided Hayward should rest after he experienced general soreness in his ankle following Friday's 113-101 loss to the Toronto Raptors. "I got to live with that", Burke said.

"There's times where it still feels like I'm not playing like myself". Stevens said the team isn't "overly concerned".

On Saturday night, they were just good enough to beat the rebuilding Knicks. OG Anunoby scored 8 of his 12 points on the night in the second quarter, looking fully healthy to start this season and with his jump shot having been a focal point during the summer, he looked a much improved shooter against Washington.

Knicks: Coach David Fizdale said G Courtney Lee would see specialists Monday after experiencing neck spasms that went down into his chest.

Knox was driving for a layup on a fast break when his ankle appeared to roll badly as he was fouled by Terry Rozier III.

Knox was disqualified from the remainder of the game because he couldn't shoot the subsequent free throws. The Knicks said X-rays for Knox are negative. Hayward's season ended on opening night previous year after he broke his leg in the first quarter.

Toronto rested Leonard on the second half of a back-to-back and third game in 4 days to begin the 2018-19 season.
