Southern California surgeon and accomplice charged with drugging, raping women

Robicheaux appeared on a Bravo reality TV series called "Online Dating Rituals of the American Male" in 2014, in an episode titled "Three's a Crowd".

"I want to know what's wrong with you", the woman told Robicheaux over dinner, "because you seem, like, too ideal".

A doctor who appeared on Bravo reality show Online Dating Rituals of the American Male has been accused of teaming up with a woman believed to be his girlfriend, to drug, sexually assault and rape women. They allegedly took her to Robicheaux's apartment and sexually assaulted her with intention of raping her, officials said.

While the district attorney said investigators will want to talk to Robicheaux's patients, he said there is no evidence any incidents happened in a medical setting.

Riley is an aspiring teacher who worked occasionally as a substitute teacher in Fullerton, Senior Deputy District Attorney Michael Carroll said. Attorneys for the both defendants have denied the allegations.

Rackauckas said detectives with search warrants found a video of the sex acts with one of the two identified victims.

Robicheaux and Riley are two "clean-cut, good-looking people", and they used their looks to "prey" on their victims, Orange County District Attorney Tony Rackauckas said.

"We've all heard of a wolf dressed up in sheep's clothing but a wolf can wear scrubs or doctors clothing or a wolf can be a handsome woman", he added.

A 32-year-old woman met the couple in a local restaurant in April 2016 and they invited her to a party, authorities alleged. The following day, the woman contacted police and underwent a forensic exam, which found that she had multiple controlled substances in her system.

That woman told police she had been drinking at a bar in Newport Beach with the couple until she lost consciousness. They allegedly gave the victim more drugs and raped her. The district attorney's office said the victim awakened and screamed for help until a neighbour called police, who began an investigation. However, police are investigating whether he assaulted his patients. Robicheaux is also accused of possessing two illegal, unregistered assault rifles, four other firearms and several large-capacity magazines. In addition, the Newport Beach Police Department has notified the California Medical Board of Robicheaux's arrest.

Prosecutors told the BBC "thousands and thousands" of videos of potential victims were on the defendants' phones.

Neither defendant could be immediately reached for comment by telephone.

Another woman claimed she was taken back to Robicheaux's apartment in October that year after falling unconscious due to consuming copious amounts of alcohol. "Riley believe that such allegations do a disservice to, and dangerously undermine, the true victims of sexual assault, and they are eager to have the proper spotlight shed on this case in a public trial".

"There are several videos where the women in the videos appear to be highly intoxicated beyond the ability to consent or resist and they're barely responsive to the defendant's sexual advances", said Rackauckas. Numerous women appear "past the point of consent", the district attorney said, with some appearing "to be intoxicated to the point of unconsciousness or near unconsciousness".

Rackauckas said victims should not be ashamed.

If found guilty, Robicheaux faces 40 years in prison while Riley faces over 30 years.

"They have been aware of these accusations for a number of months, and each of them will formally deny the truth of these allegations at their first opportunity in court", said Robicheaux's lawyer, Philip Cohen, and Riley's lawyer, Scott Borthwick.
