New ‘Bumblebee’ Trailer Takes the ‘Transformers’ Franchise Back to the 80s

In this episode of Kieran's Movie Space, Kieran discusses and reviews the brand new trailer for Paramount's upcoming Transformers prequel/reboot, Bumblebee.

Bumblebee attempts to brush the sand out of Charlie Watson's (Hailee Steinfeld) hair after he transforms from auto to Autobot, in the new trailer. Nonetheless, audiences won't have to wait long for another robots-in-disguise extravaganza, since Bumblebee will be racing into theaters this December.

The film also stars Pamela Adlon, Jorge Lendeborg Jr., John Ortiz and John Cena as Agent Burns, who is misled to believe that Bumblebee is escaped criminal from Cybertron and joins with the movie's baddies in an attempt to take him down.

The trailer begins with Charlie Watson (Hailee Steinfeld) buying a rundown Beetle from a junkyard, only to realise later that it is a Transformer called Bumblebee.

More importantly, it has plenty of G1 character designs too - with Bumblebee (and Optimus Prime, glimpsed in a hologram) returned to the plasticky shapes we all know and love. Sure, we get to see more about the story, but rather than wholly focus on the relationship between this girl and her vehicle, we are seeing more of these Transformers and Decepticons than you can shake a stick at.

Unlike the franchise's previous entries, which were helmed by Michael Bay, Bumblebee is directed by Travis Knight, best known for his work on Kubo and the Two Strings.

And you can enjoy the trailer right here!

As they run, Bumblebee and Charlie realise that the former isn't the only Transformer on Earth - but the others of its kind may not be so friendly.

Bumblebee opens on Boxing Day.
