Everything Apple didn’t announce at its event: Macs, iPads, and more

Soon after announcing the new iPhone XR and XS models at its press event on Wednesday, Apple showed off its current lineup of iPhones.

The strategy has been successful, helping Apple's stock to rise more than 30 percent this year and making it the first publicly traded US company to hit a market value of more than $1 trillion. Not only is that the biggest iPhone display to date, it's also just a hair bigger than the 6.4-inch display of the recently released Samsung Galaxy Note9.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration said it worked with Apple to develop apps for the Apple Watch and has been taking steps to ease the regulatory pathway for companies seeking to create digital healthcare products. The iPhone XR's LCD display (dubbed Liquid Retina HD) looks sharp, and won't disappoint, but the differences in quality are noticeable when compared to its more costly iPhone XS and XS Max counterparts, both of which have OLED displays.

Apple says Canadians will be able to pre-order the iPhone Xr on Friday, October 19 at 12:01AM PDT/3:01AM EDT.

'The iPhone Xs Max price reflects the name.,' Twitter user @juhasaarinen wrote.

On the surface, the iPhone XR feels like an iPhone X, at least from the front.

Apple revealed its three new iPhones on September in an event at the Steve Jobs Theater in its Apple Park HQ. Like the iPhone X, the new models contain Apple's Face ID feature, which lets people unlock their smartphones by looking at them. It comes equipped with a 12MP wide-angle camera with an all-new sensor and 1.4 million pixels (the same as in the iPhone XS and XS Max). The front camera is still a 7MP lens but has a 2x faster sensor and improved red-eye reduction, detail segmentation, and more thanks to the A12 chip.

But it does have the same A12 Bionic that the top-level iPhone XS has as well as iOS 12 installed, so it should be pretty nippy. The iPhone Xs is at last official - alongside the iPhone Xs Max and iPhone XR, and despite all the secrecy and speculation, it's much as everyone expected it to be.

The iPhone Xr comes in three storage configurations: 64GB, 128GB and 256GB.

I'd make the old joke about selling my kidney for one of these, but if iPhone prices keep rising like this, one kidney soon won't be enough.

As for the iPhone X, introduced in November, it's notable that Apple would discontinue a product less than a year after its introduction, especially one as generally well-received as the X. However, the new iPhone XS has the same starting price of $999 and better specs overall, perhaps making the X redundant.

Well, both the Xs and Xs Max will launch on 21 September, with preorders starting on 14 September.
