Before Trump, Obama was an 'enemy of press freedom'

White House economist Kevin Hassett fact-checked a seemingly extraordinary claim about the country's GDP growth rate overtaking the unemployment rate for the first time in more than 100 years.

The GDP Rate (4.2%) is higher than the Unemployment Rate (3.9%) for the first time in over 100 years!

Administration officials rarely contradict the president in public and nearly never from behind the podium, well aware that Trump prizes loyalty above all else in his employees. "We have just begun".

Speaking about then candidate Donald Trump, President Obama in June of 2016 once asked, "What magic wand do you have?" in response to claims Trump was tossing about. "I complained plenty about Fox News, but you never heard me threaten to shut them down, or call them 'enemies of the people'". Yet it was 50 words about the media that undercut Obama's credibility with the absurd claim that he - unlike Trump - didn't "threaten the freedom of the press".

In 2006, unemployment was about 4.7 percent and quarterly GDP growth was significantly higher than it is now, at 5.4 percent, according to data.

Hassett said he could not explain how Trump obtained the false information. Trump wrote on his Twitter account.

Hassett talked to reporters at a press briefing about Trump's positive effect on the economy.
