Ruby Rose cast as lesbian superhero Batwoman, Entertainment News & Top Stories

Ruby Rose is overcome with emotion!

While on the show to promote The Meg, Rose revealed that she got the call that she'd been cast as Kate Kane shortly before she had to head to the premiere for the new Jason Statham thriller on Monday.

Having played a prison inmate in Orange is the New Black on Netflix, Ruby Rose will return to The CW to take on the title role in a new saga.

"I feel like the reason I keep getting so emotional is because, you know, growing up watching TV, I never saw somebody on TV that I could identify with, let alone a superhero, you know", Rose explained before taking a moment to regain her composure.

"Kids [can] watch this growing up and relate to it and feel empowered and think that they can become a superhero", continued Rose on the impact of her casting for future generations. With Batgirl, "I felt like one motto led me to the other and I just kept crying about it".

Both Variety and Deadline report that Rose, now appearing in the giant-shark action movie The Meg, has been tapped to portray Kate Kane in both the upcoming Arrow/Flash/Supergirl crossover special and the potential Batwoman series being helmed by Caroline Dries that could air in 2019.

The 32-year-old stunner said the show actually won't be her first time sporting bat wings.

On the new season of the DC Comics drama, Rose will be playing Batwoman. Kane is described as a highly trained street fighter with a passion for social justice and a flair for speaking her mind. She's even served as the primary featured hero for Gotham City in Detective Comics while Batman wasn't in the picture. In her Batwoman persona she patrols the streets of Gotham City, eager to fight crime and to confront her own demons.
