Lionel MESSI scores sensational free kick in FC Barcelona win against Alaves

Lionel Messi scored the Blaugrana's 6,000th LaLiga goal with a sublime free-kick that went under the wall, a finish that delighted his coach, even if it didn't overly surprise him.

Do you think Messi should be playing in friendly encounters?

The Argentine superstar also scored Barcelona's 5,000th goal on February 1, 2009, at Racing Santander.

"Messi is a genius - we're lucky to be able to see him every day", the Blaugrana boss told reporters after the game.

Nine years ago, the maestro scored the club's 5,000th La Liga goal and here he is again, breaking records and producing jaw-dropping statistics.

"That's how we've started ahead of the new season, we'll see how he gets on", Valverde added.

"Leo can always surprise you, it's not usual".

"I had no idea where he was going to put that free kick".

"He already scored a goal like that against Girona", he intimated.

"If we had scored in the first half, then we could have delayed our changes, but we missed a player who could take shots on goal and I thought of Coutinho".

"We expected Alaves would be hard because they tighten up at the back and it was like that in the first half, but in the second we found more space and the goals arrived", said Roberto.

Messi completed the scoring with the final kick of the game, reaching Luis Suarez's pass before beating his man and slotting home.

"Alaves sat back deep, defensively they were very good and they kept their lines together well".
