LeBron James: Opening school to be one of greatest moments in life

The school, which will expand to include grades 1-8 by 2020, also has a resource center that helps families "navigate daily challenges and facilitate long-term planning", and parents of I Promise students can earn their GEDs or high school diplomas.

- LeBron James (@KingJames) July 29, 2018and it doesn't get bigger than opening day tomorrow (until the next thing we dream of ) I'm so unbelievably proud and excited to see my kids, my home, and the 330 tomorrow. The I Promise School has a longer school day and longer school year. The bond between the two is strong enough to withstand any basketball error by Smith that left the four-time MVP scratching his head.

The school is a joint venture between the LeBron James Family Foundation and Akron Public Schools.

A video posted to James' online platform, Uninterrupted, shows the athlete talking about his feelings on the cross-country move as well as the new school.

"I would never sit across from him", James said.

Knowing that students can not learn if they are struggling with issues such as hunger, trauma, or other logistical or emotional challenges, IPS will provide support to help eliminate those barriers and prepare the child physically and emotionally for learning, according to the statement.

"Sometimes you can get exhausted if you look at it like work - you kind of get exhausted of it".

"And that's something that I can't relate to because I know that sport was the first time I was around someone white".

"I want people to know that these kids still have the same opportunities as everyone else, and thats whats important", James said. After adding James, the Lakers - who went 35-47 last season under coach Luke Walton - took the motley crew approach by signing Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Rajon Rondo, Lance Stephenson, Michael Beasley, and JaVale McGee.

"I live in sports. It's always been something that brings someone together". Because of that, every student will receive a bicycle when they arrive at the school.

James didn't offer many details about what prompted him to sign with the Lakers, but the lure of playing for one of the most successful franchises in all of sports was more than intriguing.

"I did my due diligence after the season on the pros and cons on a lot of different teams, including the Cavs, Philadelphia, Houston and Los Angeles", James said.

"You can look at the (NFL Dallas) Cowboys and you can look at the (NFL New England) Patriots, you can look at Manchester United, the Boston Celtics - these are like historical franchises".
