June's Best Selling Gaming Hardware Was... the NES Classic

So it shouldn't come as a surprise that after it made its way back to gamers' favorites stores, it ended up June's highest unit-selling hardware platform in the USA, according to NPD.

Make it so Nintendo.

When it comes to gaming consoles, you might only think about PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch, but there's an underdog which you are missing, that is NES Classic. The little retro console that could?

Nintendo's all-in-one retro console, the NES Classic Edition, was the bestselling piece of video game hardware for the month of June 2018, according to a United States market report from the NPD Group. This marks a first for the NES Classic as well as for any NES hardware since NPD began tracking video games in 1988, three years after the Nintendo Entertainment System's original North American release.

However, the release of another batch of consoles has seen the console rocket to the top of the sales charts for the month - outselling its cutting-edge PS4 and Xbox One rivals in the US.

"Gains were driven by Fortnite, promotions around the E3 period, and reinvigorated distribution of the NES Classic, among other factors", read the NPD's commentary.

NPD claims it's thanks to Fortnite, whose success is prompting many to go and buy a new console only for it, promotions around E3 and NES Classic Mini being once again available. Interest has been strong for Nintendo's recent hardware, with the company struggling to meet demand initially for the NES Classic, SNES Classic, and even the Switch. Tell us in the comments.
