Barcelona originally purchased the Palmeiras player in January, paying 11.8 million euros, a very small amount considering the prices that were being paid for other centre-backs at the time.

Bernard, 25, left Shakhtar Donetsk when his contract expired and had been linked to a host of European clubs.

The Colombia global completed a £28.5million switch from Barcelona, having been the subject of interest from Manchester United and Lyon.

Several Premier League sides including West Ham and Chelsea had been in the hunt for the Brazilian winger while AC Milan also expressed an interest.

Mina also said that speaking with Lucas Digne and fellow newcomer Andre Gomes helped him decide that Everton was his preferred destination.

Everton trebled their tally of summer signings from Barcelona on a productive deadline day for new manager Marco Silva.

'I know about Everton's players and I look forward to being able to play with my new team.

While Bernard was finalising his transfer at Everton's Finch Farm training ground a club delegation led by the director of football, Marcel Brands, concluded deals for Mina and Gomes in Barcelona. That is why I made my choice, because of the confidence both the manager and the club showed in me.

Manchester United and Lyon had both tracked Colombia worldwide Mina, who signed a five-year deal after Barca sanctioned his £27.2 million sale.

"I spoke to Lucas and he told me all about the Club, which also made me keen to come here".
