According to a report in 9News, the suspect's defense attorney James Merson filed a motion seeking DNA evidence from the remains found at Anadarko Petroleum, indicating that Watts is believed to have strangled his wife and two little girls.
Police said they conducted a welfare check after Watts' friend called and requested one.
That expert, Richard Eikelenboom, stated, "I have a lot of experience taking samples from dead bodies getting good results after strangulation".
It wasn't immediately clear if the judge ruled on the motions. The document cites an expert who argued that DNA would still be present on the bodies - even though they had been submerged in crude oil for four days before they were found - but that evidence would be lost once the autopsies were performed.
