YEP says: Birthday honours for ordinary folk mean so much

A Kenilworth doctor has been appointed a CBE in the Queen's birthday honours list for his services to wellbeing in the workplace.

Many prominent Australians have been recognised in the Queen's Birthday Honours.

"To receive such an MBE from Her Majesty is just a tremendous honour".

"I am very pleased that my contribution has been recognised in this way", he said, "but this honour is also a recognition of the contribution that all magistrates make to their local communities and to the justice system and I would like to thank my colleagues on the bench and at the Magistrates Association for the support that they have given me in almost thirty years as a magistrate". I offer my honest congratulations to these recipients on their worthy honours.

Sporting stars are well represented among the recipients, with Premier League and England striker Jermain Defoe describing himself as "blessed and humbled" to be recognised with an OBE for his services to the charitable foundation set up in his name.

Joshua, who is looking to take on American Deontay Wilder or Russian Alexander Povetkin before the end of the year, was awarded his OBE for services to boxing.

"When you look at the talent in Australia, it has always perplexed me that we never had the number of nominations for women that we do for men", Stone said.

John Short, chief executive at the trust, said: "I was so delighted to hear that Katharine has been awarded this well-deserved honour".

Christine Ferguson was made a Member in the General Division for services to the community of Gundagai, local government, parliament and politics.

In total, 1,057 people have received an award with 10% of the successful candidates come from a BAME background.
