World witnessed more than enough conflict, says Donald Trump

I am now prepared to make the following prediction: the Korean War will be formally ended, the peninsula will be denuclearised, and a lasting peace will be the result. We need to get used to the idea that two men, who much of the world sees as unhinged, may in fact possess the secret sauce that has caused leader after leader in North Korea and the U.S. to miss the mark.

Leaders of free countries sometimes look around that world and make accommodations with power and reality, including despots. His depiction of the summit as a great success that solved the nuclear problem will make it that much tougher to maintain global support for the economic sanctions that are still needed to pressure North Korea.

He told Greta Van Susteren on the Voice of America that the man he used to mock as "Little Rocket Man" has "a great personality". "He's amusing, and. very, very smart. and a very strategic kind of a guy". There will be more meetings, probably including Kim's visit to the White House, and the two countries will move, slowly and crabwise, towards the mutual deterrence that will define their future relationship.

Trump himself tweeted out this line of thinking, asserting that "pundits & talking heads" who were "begging for conciliation and peace" were now saying "you shouldn't meet, do not meet".

Of course, Kim also had the advantage of his father's police state to kill his half-brother, his uncle and other potential opponents. You call people sometimes killers, he is a killer. Anybody that takes over a situation like he did at 26 years of age and is able to run it and run it tough - I don't say it was nice or I don't say anything about it.

Past year when North Korea was sending rockets over Japan and into the Pacific, President Trump warned Kim, the North Korean dictator, that there would be consequences for such war-like behavior.

Trump continued to admit that when "he speaks and his people sit up at attention". "So many people asked when I was on the campaign".

Referencing that remark, Reid asked Schwartz about Trump's praise of Kim Jong Un including going so far as to call Kim a "smart guy". Actually, I think sarcasm is one thing reporters do understand.

Ending military drills in South Korea would be a gift to China, which has previously suggested just such a formula: that North Korea freeze its nuclear and missile programs in exchange for a halt to major military exercises by American and South Korean forces. In short order, these experts and the IAEA could begin their activities in North Korea. Human Rights Watch has dubbed North Korea one of the "most repressive authoritarian states in the world". Winston Churchill despised communism and Joseph Stalin. So I know you were trying to give him a compliment, but that was really more of an insult.

About half an hour later, Fox News notified reporters that Trump was about to appear on the show. He's a amusing guy. And Kim had a face-to-face summit with a U.S. President, something his grandfather and father never came close to achieving.

Tony Schwartz has been a frequent critic of Donald Trump, calling him self-possessed and lacking in the attention span or intellectual curiosity to succeed as president.

Mr. Trump's surprise declaration during a news conference after the summit that he would suspend military drills between the United States and South Korea - and that he hoped eventually to pull some 28,000 American troops off the peninsula - blindsided American allies, including South Korea itself. "Once they have missiles that can deliver them to use, I would liken it to past presidents sitting down with Soviet dictators".

Christine Ahn is the founder of Women Cross DMZ - the demilitarized zone between North and South Korea - a global movement of women mobilizing to end the Korean War. If Mr. Kim complies, the USA president even promised to lift all trade sanctions, a move that will help strengthen North Korea's struggling economy.
